Former “Top Chef” Fatima Ali says she has a year to live.

The 29-year-old underwent surgery to remove a tumor in January. However, Ali wrote Tuesday in an essay for Bon Appetit that the “cancer cells my doctors believed had vanished are back with a vengeance in my left hip and femur bone.” Ali says her oncologist told her she has a year to live, “with or without the new chemotherapy regimen.”

She writes she used to dream of owning her own restaurant. Now she has a growing list of restaurants to visit and is “sketching a plan” to eat her way through New York.

Ali says “every day is an opportunity for me to experience something new.”

“We all got to know and love Chef Fati during season 15 of Top Chef,” the Go Fund Me Page that was set up for her says. “Her talent, smile, energy, and amazing personality are all reasons that she became our fan favorite. After the show, Fati was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that affects bone and soft tissue. She put her dreams of opening a restaurant, and life on hold while she went through treatment.”

She also said in the Bon Apetite Here that she hopes to eat at the restaurants she has dreamed of in the time she has left. She will receive 100% of the donations from the page. Any money she does not use will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America to help find a cure for this rare cancer, the page also stated.

Ali appeared on Season 15 of the Bravo series that took place in Colorado. Read more about the season and Ali here.
