Addressing reporters here, Gehlot said Congress on the other hand strove to come up with ways and means to defeat Ambedkar. It was RSS leaders who campaigned for Ambedkar when he contested the polls and “deep friendship” between Ambedkar and RSS founder K B Hedgewar is well-known. NDA celebrated Ambedkar’s birth centenary in a befitting manner in Delhi and is keen that his true thoughts reach the masses, he said.
Taking pots shots at former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah for his recent statement on Kashmir with regard to abrogation of Article 370, Gehlot said the silence of the Congress that is trying to ally with his National Conference is bewildering. “Omar is batting for a separate PM for Jammu and Kashmir, separate Constitution,” he said adding Congress is playing right in to hands of forces that is trying to divide India.
Lambasting the opposition for playing a negative role in Parliament, Gehlot said the attempts to block its functioning and ‘childish’ acts of AICC chief Rahul Gandhi inside and outside the parliament is not good for the country. The Parliament is supreme and both ruling and opposition parties must use this forum to redress issues confronting the nation, he said adding the opposition on the other hand excels in blocking this very forum.
On the censure by ECI on several leaders including UP CM Yogi Adityanath, BSP leader Mayawathi for their virulent comments, Gehlot while welcoming it said all must follow the model code of conduct.
Gehlot at the same time also demanded that ECI take suo moto cognisance of similar statements made by others rather than act merely on complaints, adding that BJP leadership has spoken to Yogi on keeping the political discourse civil.
